Marketing manager for hire

For many small-to-medium companies, a knowledgeable, full-time marketing person is prohibitively expensive. That's where we can help.

While we have worked at boardroom level at the likes of Check Point Software Technologies, Infor, Sage, SAP and Websense, our senior team continues to work at the coalface - writing press releases, designing leaflets, organising events and running direct mail or advertising campaigns.

In addition, one of our directors is Chair of the Business Forum Mid Devon and on the committee of the Local Action Group. This gives us direct access to people driving economic and funding developments for businesses in the South West.

This broad experience means that we are able to drop in as little or often as you need, and at whatever level will deliver the best return for your marketing spend.

For some clients, we've developed a whole new brand, marketing or communications strategy, then provided them with the templates and training to roll out their plan themselves. (For example, see our work for Atmos and McIntyre). For others, we simply provide an annual marketing MOT, kick start a project (read about Tufcoat's launch) or create the occasional promotional item as the need arises - such as a leaflet, advert, case study or website (such as Acrastyle's).

A large number of businesses, including a range of creative agencies, rely on us for temporary holiday, maternity or sickness cover, or to deliver special projects in tight timeframes - such as the launch of TJX's HR department's fastrack programme or John Lewis' Foodhall on Oxford St.

Other organisations prefer to use us as their sole marketing resource, working on- and off-site to promote their business.

One example is JP Associates.

Since 2000 the small, Devon-based company has established a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable – and friendliest - arboricultural consultancies in the South of the UK. However, during this time it has also provided an exceptionally broad variety of services, which it was struggling to capture into an easy-to-explain package to prospective clients. This had become a challenge as it started to plan a new website.

The company couldn't justify a permanent marketing resource. Instead, it asked us to become its temporary marketing manager, with a remit to update its branding, clearly define its value proposition, project-manage its new website, and create content to support its future marketing effort.

JP Associates was delighted with the end result, saying 'Thanks to Lathwell & Associates we have clearly-defined key messages and a dynamic and useful website. Gold standard service from a diamond duo.’

Following the success of this project, we were retained to provide ongoing, part-time marketing services for the company - from copywriting and PR to strategic planning.

Another example is Sage.

When Sage moved into Australia and New Zealand through the acquisition of three companies including our client ACCPAC, it invited us to manage the multi-national, multi-business, multi-brand communications strategy through the transition phase. We worked with Sage's UK and South African teams to launch Sage into the region at a glittering Sydney Harbour gala event, conducted roadshows to explain the new entity to customers, partners and the media, and managed the PR, promotional and advertising campaigns.

As sales for the component parts of the 'new Sage' took off, the project was declared a success and we were retained as the ongoing marketing consultants for Sage in ANZ.
